TODAY IS SPECIAL DAY

I really see today as one of the most important day of the past week. I usually attend lectures five days a week and do my external  study on Saturday and Sunday. But this evening is very special. Because I attended important lecture. This was done by the students of the Faculty of Arts, University of the Colombo. These days they are holding their art festival using zoom technology. They had named this Art festival as "Akaniya". They called today lecture a " viduhuru pelapaliya". The lecture was originally named by the senior lecturer Saddha Uthpala. The lecture was also given by Mr. Saddha Uthpala, a senior lecturer on the university of the visual and performing art and it was because of him that our students had the opportunity to attend to this.

He spoke about the Bali, Thovil, Shanthi karma in Sri Lanka and it's birth stories. Also talked about its scientific background. He also spoke on a number of timely topics and mentioned places where the dance should be held. He explains how timely it is to use dance forms in the Local dance tradition for weddings.

In fact I was able to learn a lot in the tradition dance by this. I also able to listen to poems that I had never heard before. I'm really Happy to hear a lecture like this at a time like this because a lot of things have been taught to us by the traditional dance.

My Favorite Dance😍😍😍

Dance is an art. We have to be very lucky to get that art. I like all the dance in the world and I like all the dances in it. But I like our local traditional dance a lot. Among them the Kandyan dance tradition is the most serious dance art. From its dance I know many of stories about the dancing. So, Kuweni  Asna is my favorite dance.

The Kuweni Asna dance was first performed at the Kohomba Yak Kankari  Shanthi karma held to heal king Panduwasdew. Kuweni Asna dance is a dance form with singing . this dance is about Kuweni. Here beautiful poems are sung according to different tunes. Among those poems, Kuweni mentioned. "Dan sondura thaniwa mama " is the my favorite poem in the Kuweni asna. There are various stories like how Kuweni lived with king Vijaya, how she was expelled, and how she lived without her husband. It also  includes the curse placed on King Vijaya by Kuweni.

This dance is performed with a coconut torch and " ea gasa ". This dance is performed as a making circle. In this dance, emotions are used well. This is an energetic dance as well as some very beautiful dance steps. Only dancers dance in the sanctum sanctorum, where they use Wes dance costume. On stage, this is danced by both male and female. The female dancers also wear the Pahinpath dance costume and male dancers also wear the Wes dance costume.

So, I like the way of costume, the make up, and the style of this dance all have to do with it, And it's performed many times in various places. So, I like this one a lot.

CORN😍😍

I like to eat a lot of whole grains. But out of that I like to eat Corn the most. So today my mom had taken corn for me. So I eat them with great pleasure because I like it very much. So I thought I'd find out a little more about the corn I like to eat the most.

The corn plant is actually native to Mexico in North America. Some say that this plant bends well with the plant called Teosinte. It is said that this plant was brought to our country by the kings who ruled in Sri Lanka during the 16th and 17 centuries.

The genus of this plant is Pancoideae and the botanical name is Zea mays. One or more spikes on a maize tree. Seed rows in pairs. The pods are 5-45cm long and 3-8cm diameter . Seed size can range from 400-1000. Corn is a seed fruit. The main constituents of corn kernels are starch (75-77%), Protein (9-10%), Cellulose and sugar (7%), Oil (5%) and Minerals (2-3%).

There are different varieties of maize. Namely:

      • Aruna
      • Bhadra
      • Pearl
      • Ruwan
      • Wild corn
      • Sweet Corn & Sampath

Also, this corn makes very tasty delicacies. In Sri Lanka corn is used to make Samaposha. It is also used to make porridge, bread, pittu, Pusnappa, steamed milk corn, popcorn & traditional foods.

Corn also has the potential to meet 18.7% of the body's daily fiber requirement. It also lowers cholesterol levels and reduces the risk of colon cancer. It also has high levels of folate, which is good for the heart. It also contains vitamins like vitamin B1 & B5.

So because of the above I most like to eat corn. 😍😍😍

MY FAVORITE FILM😍😍😍

No matter how many films are made in Sri Lanka, there is one film that impressed me. The film is based on the historical story that took place during the Anuradhapura ancient kingdom. The screenplay was created by the same person who directed it. His name was Jackson Anthony, a veteran  film director. The main character of this film was Mr. Sajitha Anthony. His main Character was Pandukabhaya. The music was Directed by Mr.  Nadeeka Guruge.

Many of the scenes mentioned here caught my attention. One of my favorite moments is when Prince Pandukabhaya  is taken by the Habaraa and the Gumbukabutha. And the end of film Mr. Sajitha said that, I am dedicated to the motherland, I will save the motherland for the rest of my life. I like that  scene a lot too. Not without dislikes in this movie. In fact, I don't like the scene where Aba goes to dance and yells "mom".

In fact, the crew of the film had beautifully directed this to the audience. The camerawork as well as the background used here is very interesting. It made me feel like we were really back in the history. Also, the film won many awards. They won the following awards.

  • Most popular film
  • Best Actress
  • Best supporting actress
  • Best cinematographer
  • Best music direction
  • Best sound effect
  • Best lyricist
  • Merit awards

The film mentioned above is the Aba film. It's my favorite movie because it's very high quality film.

THE BOOK I READ

Today I read  a wonderful book on the subject of performing arts. The name of this book is Performing ArtsThis  was written by  Mrs. Mangalika Jayathunga.  It contained the followings.

      • What is performing arts?
      • History of performing arts in the West.
      • History of performing arts in the East.
      • Gestures
      • Lighting of the performing arts
      • Actors  and Performers in the performing arts
      • Performing  arts business
      • Audience
      • Audience satisfaction
      • Performing arts in Sri Lanka

The basic  features of the performing arts is the actor and  the performer. Their  main tool is their body. Being a live  performer is also one of its main requirements. It is also essential to have a live  audience. Performing arts are an intangible  cultural heritage. Performing arts are also known as fleeting  art. Also, the performing arts are movement : created  by the soul and  take on the dynamic  form. That is , it is constantly changing.

Performing  arts include singing, playing, dancing, as well as power drills such as acrobatic, majic, gymnastic   angampora,  ventriloquism, speech and stand up comedy. Also the Shanthi karma system , which is prominent in the Sri Lankan indigenous dance system, belongs to the category of performing arts. That's because it has a live theater as well as a live audience. Also as mentioned in this book ,  Bharathamuni's  book Drama for Eastern performing arts has influenced the development  of gestures in the performing arts.

So if you read this book too, you will be able to learn a lot about the performing arts.

73RD INDEPENDENCE DAY ❤❤❤❤

Today is the special day for the great homeland of Sri Lanka. That is because 73 years ago, on February 4, 1948, our country gained independence. At that time our country was invaded by the Portuguese and the Dutch. But the heroes of that time did their best to save our island. Since then they have led various uprisings to save our country and as a result our country gained independence in 1948.

So, as a country, today is the 73rd Independence Day celebrations that took place at Independence square, Galle Face. The war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country and the police came together and performed their duties well. These things were done in view of their respect for our motherland. Also a number of cultural events were held giving priority to Cultural events.

In fact, our national flag was flying in the blue sky. Then I had self-esteem as well as self-respect in my heart towards my country. So with all my heart I pay my respects to my motherland like the pearl of the Indian Ocean. It is up to you to decide whether or not to make the most of this freedom. But we will work together to ensure that our country, our motherland which has been liberated by war heroes from time immemorial, continues to be a free, democratic and free country. And I really love my motherland.
